CIUDAD VIEJA

Planting Semillas works with Asociación Niños de Guatemala, an NGO founded by Dutch volunteers, assisting them to better support the population they work with. “Escuela Nuestro Futuro” offers early childhood education to 50 students aged 5 and 6 who belong to families living in poverty and extreme poverty. Recognizing that many of the students in this population suffer from trauma related to interfamilial and community violence, programs are centered around developing a love and respect for one’s self to build a love and compassion for others. This school is now registered in the Ministry of Education of Guatemala.

La escuela “El Porvenir” is also a part of la Asociación Niños de Guatemala where 50 students, aged 5 and 6 years old, come from low-income families. With a high prevelance of gender based violence and prevelence of “machismo,” classrooms utilize an integral coeducation model that encourages a change of mentality in the future generations.
