Planting Seeds established “el Jardin de los Sueños” in San Lucas in 2014 as our model school and center for teacher and program development. The preschool came about because Cerro Alux, in San Lucas, did not have a preschool program in the area. This educational program serves children from 4 to 6 years of age belonging to poor, under resourced families. It is a support to single mothers and families who need to work and leave their young children in a responsible entity that provides safety and quality education.
Most fathers and mothers of children attending the program are guardians of large houses and farms so they do not have the time to leave or pick up their children from an establishment that is far from their place of residence. Despite many parents having limited educational opportunities for themselves growing up, their presence in the center and their commitment to their children’s education is remarkable.
After 4 years in San Lucas, “el Jardin de los Sueños” has generated more demand due to the high performance of our students in primary school. The community has requested that Planting Seeds extends its reach and offer primary school as well. With your help, Planting Seeds can extend schooling through 3rd grade to better support these children and their families.
